In this video we do a four-way comparison of the home screen experiences of the major smartphone operating systems. Behind each home screen is a philosophy on how the OEM thinks the user should interact with his or her device. On the iPhone, Apple believes that users should be spending their time in applications to get data and info. In Windows Mobile, HTC believes that users should enjoy copious amounts of eye candy and the ability to access data without digging into their key apps. In Android, Google believes that users should be able to customize multiple homescreens with various links and widgets. Finally, in WebOS, Palm believes that users should have programs be the center of their attention with the multitasking card view.
