Download via SMS for Windows Mobile Devices: Much Preferred

There are a few ways to get applications onto your device. First, while connected to a computer, you can send a CAB file over to your device, and open the file by going through File Explorer on your device. Or, you could run an executable from your computer which will automatically install the program once the device is connected via ActiveSync. And third, and the most convenient, you can download over the internet through an online software store (such as our online store through MobiHand).

What I’ve begun to notice is that some companies are starting to offer a fourth way to procure software, via a “download via SMS” option, where they’ll dispatch an SMS to your device with a download link. This saves A LOT of time and effort. For example, I recently download Ultimate Search from Gx5, and it was incredibly easy – I typed in my phone number, I got an SMS, and about one minute later, the application was downloaded. Very nice.
