Did HP Uglify the iPaq 900 series?

When we first reported on the HP iPaq 900 series Windows Mobile Professional phone with a candybar QWERTY orientation, it was understated, elegant, and classy. However, recent pictures from Engadget Mobile shows the device more rounded and in my opinion less attractive. The one positive note about the uglified design is that the iPaq 900 series, which may come to AT&T in the US, will utilize the keyboard of the Motorola Q9 series, which is one of the best mobile device keyboards on the market today.

Did the iPhone influence more chrome borders? The chrome border is apparent in the Motorola Q9c on Sprint, the BlackBerry 8800 series, the BlackJack II surrounding the side edge, and on the iPaq 900 series now.

The picture below shows the old design referenced in the corner.
