The iPhone brought back the touchscreen and enabled new designs and visions for virtual keyboards. Prior to that, PDAs and smartphones moved towards an era of containing a physical keyboard as the popularity of Palm and BlackBerry devices grew. However, with the iPhone and its many clones, even Windows Mobile devices now can be fully functional for extended text entry without keyboards like the HTC Touch and Touch Diamond.
However, are you ready for a keyboard-less laptop? V12 Design seems to think so with a dual-screen laptop concept which they hope to take to market.
The laptop will look similar to current laptops with a clamshell design. Instead of a trackpad and keyboard on the bottom, a second screen will be utilized where users can call up a virtual keyboard if needed. According to Gizmodo, a new, revised prototype has been released and V12 Design hopes to have some units in production by 2010. The picture shown below is a first generation prototype.
