Microsoft hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Mac support for Windows Phone 7 Series yet, which may be good news for OS X users as Windows Mobile’s ActiveSync environment (and subsequent Windows Device Manager) was limited to the PC. Microsoft’s Aaron Woodman gave a non-committal answer on The Engadget Show where he showed off an early LG made Windows Phone 7 model.
Apparently Microsoft is still debating internally whether to make a sync client for the Mac; traditional Windows Mobile devices had to rely on paid or free third-party synchronization clients. The move to a Mac ecosystem on Windows Phone 7 Series would open up a lot of doors, both for Windows Phone 7 Series and its close cousin the Zune. Such a move may open the doors to subscription-based media services and could challenge the iPhone and iPod with their iTunes ecosystem.
For now, though, Mac onlookers have a glimmer of hope as Woodman states that there “maybe” Mac support. With the forthcoming version of Office for Mac receiving a full Microsoft Outlook port–rather than Entourage for Mac–Mac Windows Device Manager would fully close the loop.
