Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade List

With Windows Mobile 6.5 finalized and ready to be shipped to manufacturers, many people are wondering if their devices are legally and officially upgradeable to not void any warranties offered through their carriers or manufacturers. Here’s what we do know given the latest reports and from the list compiled by WMExperts:

1. Samsung: So far the only known device that is upgradable will be a Windows Mobile Standard device that is said to be released today on AT&T known as the Samsung Jack.

2. HTC: Unfortunately, it looks like only newer devices are “officially” upgradeable at this time. Two known devices from HTC’s lineup include the Diamond2 and the Touch Pro2. Keep your eyes out for a Touch Pro2 review here at pocketnow.com coming up in the near future. We’ll probably alert you on Twitter as well of when that review gets posted.

3. LG: According to WMExperts, the LG HQ and LG Eigen will be upgradeable. The picture on the bottom depicts the LG HQ on the far right and the LG Eigen next to it.

4. Toshiba: The Toshiba TG01 should be upgradeable according to WMExperts. Given the fact that we’ve seen one with a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM loaded already, there’s hope although I haven’t heard of an official Toshiba announcement on the matter.

5. Acer: Acer’s been rather secretive of what’s going on, but they are forging the way with Windows Mobile still. Four unnamed Acer handsets will be upgradeable.
