The Windows Mobile 6 series is here to stay for a while as the latest internet rumors are saying that there will be a sequel to Windows Mobile 6.5 ahead of the Windows Mobile 7 release.

The 6 series began with Windows Mobile 6, and then a minor update to Windows Mobile 6.1. Windows Mobile 6.5 has been announced and devices will start trickling into the consumer world within the next few months.

Details aren’t known yet for what is to be released after Windows Mobile 6.5, but WMPowerUser is speculating that this could either be a service pack for Windows Mobile 6.5 or another revision number (6.6, 6.7?).
