Acer’s looking to shake up the American cell phone market by offering free phones on either AT&T or T-Mobile with a qualifying contract (read: two years in a ball and chain). According to reports on The Boy Genius Report, Acer is leveraging its position in netbooks to gain carrier adoption of its smartphones. The phones that Acer unveiled at MWC 2009 lack the dedicated Windows button, so it is doubtful that those devices will be Windows Mobile 6.5 ready, but free is an attractive price for Windows Mobile 6.1.
