Video Call: iPhone Rumors Hints iChat Coming to AT&T, Rogers

Those in North America aren’t privvy to video calling–the closest thing is called Video Share offered on AT&T and that only offers one-way video streams–but that is about to change if the latest iPhone gossip holds up. According to some leaked Fido information, the Canadian carrier will be getting a 4 GB version of the iPhone, possibly for around $99, with a feature called iChat for video calling.

What is significant about this rumor is that Apple likes to maintain continuity in its products. Unlike HTC, which makes North American models sans the front-facing video chat camera, Apple will most likely demand that all global carrier partners who support 3G and above implement the technology necessary for maximum hardware use. This could mean that true, two-way video calling is coming to AT&T.

This means that the leaked mockup pictures of the Touch Pro2 and Diamond2 with front cameras for the American carrier’s network may in fact be legitimate if such features will be supported on the next generation iPhone release.

While this is only a rumor, and an iPhone rumor, if it does stand true, it could hold promise for Windows Phones which have supported this feature for a number of years now internationally.
