Verizon Wireless Touch Pro2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrade Causes Excessive Battery Drain?

A few have reported that the latest upgrade for the Verizon Wireless Touch Pro2 to Windows Mobile 6.5 is causing some excessive battery drain. WMExperts is speculating that a few factors could be attributed to the problem, which doesn’t seem to plague all VZW Touch Pro2 owners, including a new radio ROM and weather updates on HTC Sense / TouchFLO. Are you experiencing worse than normal battery drain on your Touch Pro2 using the new official Verizon Wireless Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade?

One user describe the incredibly short battery life post-upgrade as being such:

Had my battery completely dead by noon. It was at half power when I walked into the Verizon store and when I walked out the notification went off.

One possible reason for the battery drain, which has been confirmed by several members on the WMExperts discussion is due to the high memory (RAM) usage, possibly due to the OS and the HTC overlay:

i noticed the system memory regularly runs at approx 75% since the 6.5 update. With 2 or 3 programs running it would easily touch 92% memory usuage. i now use the phone with htc sense off and the memory sits at 50% and the phone seems more responsive. HTC should understand their software better and recognize how intensive their program is. i bet on a 1ghz chip it wouldnt be a problem at all.
