The Journey of a Mobile Developer: an Infograph

Back in July of 2010, VisionMobile (a market research firm) published a detailed research report called Developer Economics 2010 and Beyond, which dives into the many aspects of application development, from platform selection, to development, to monetization. Here are a handful of interesting takeaways from the infograph:

- Android has the smallest learning curve at about five months, Symbian has the longest at 18, and Windows Mobile is right in the middle at around eight

- Developers get paid the fastest when they offer direct downloads, although utilizing an app store decreases the time-to-market

- Around 25% of developers fail to reach their revenue goals for an app, and just 5% exceed revenue goals

- While the install base of Symbian is about six times bigger than iOS, it has just 5% the amount of apps
