File under: News
There has been a lot of news about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2, which was formally announced today. We wanted to give you some of the highlights of Sony Ericsson's latest Windows Mobile release:
1. Colors: black and silver
2. Processor: same as X1--Qualcomm MSM 7200 528
3. Performance: smoother than the X1 with better performance and graphics
4. Features an accelerometer to easily rotate screens; homescreen is locked to portrait but can be rotated to landscape via keyboard slide
5. Quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band 3G device; compatible with AT&T
6. 8.1-megapixel camera with photo light and 16X digital zoom
7. WVGA flush resistive touchscreen
8. Improved keyboard
9. Dimensions and size similar to predecessor
10. Video light for use with video recording
11. SIM-unlocked unit will come with TV out cable and 4 GB microSD card; unit can support up to 16 GB cards.
12. Phone memory listed as 110 MB
13. UI shown in video is still in pre-release form; hopefully it will get even further optimized upon release.
14. Engadget is complaining that the UI is still a little jerky, but then again it is a pre-release UI.
The device is expected to cost a pricey 699 Euros. Whether that asking price is worth it for you depends on what features you need. It is quite clear that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 is more multimedia oriented with a higher megapixel count and LED flash on the camera. The biggest competitor to the Touch Pro2, which has a lower 3-megapixel camera and eschews the video light and flash. However, you can get the Touch Pro2 subsidized through wireless carriers once it is released.
