In a move to probably accommodate the Nexus One Google Android phone, T-Mobile has announced that its HSPA 3G network has now been upgraded to give users a theoretical download speed of 7.2 Mbps, double that of the 3.6 Mbps from before. The nation’s fourth largest wireless network in subscriber base was late to the 3G game, but has been aggressive in launching 3G in more cities. It is estimated that T-Mobile’s network now reaches 200 million Americans.
Additionally, T-Mobile is anticipating to be the nation’s first 3G carrier to go HSPA+. Currently, HSPA+ is in trials in the city of brotherly love in Philadelphia, PA. HSPA+ is expected to be around 3 times as fast as the newly inaugurated 7.2 Mbps network, clocking in at a theoretical 21 Mbps.
