Sprint Samsung Intrepid Software Tour

We’ve seen the Samsung Intrepid unboxed and we’ve got a glimpse of the device. Let’s check out the software on this Windows Mobile 6.5 device, which was announced just in time for the October 6 launch date of 6.5.

There is an LED on this device on the right side of the ear piece grill and a light sensor on the left side of the earpiece speaker. However, unlike some newer phones, this one does not have a proximity sensor so the screen will automatically activate and de-activate when you bring your Samsung Windows phone to your face when in a call. Instead, the screen just turns off after a set number of seconds when in a call–you can adjust this in the settings.

The cool part is that the Intrepid has two voice command applications–Microsoft Voice Command and TellMe–we’ll explore the differences between the two in a forthcoming video segment and why you may choose to use one over the other in certain scenarios in daily life.

Other software that the Intrepid comes with that weren’t mentioned or covered in the video include:

1. Sprint Titan–a Java virtual machine to run Java applications, such as Opera Mini

2. An Instant Messaging application that runs your popular IM clients

3. Nascar

4. NFL

5. Sprint TV

6. Smart Converter

7. Stop Watch

8. Tip Calculator

9. SmartReader–a cool scanning utility that allows you to use the phone’s camera to scan business cards or documents.

10. Sprint Music Store–a mobile music store that opens up in the new Internet Explorer Mobile for Windows Mobile 6.5, which is based on the desktop version of IE 6.

Also, Sprint and Samsung has seemingly included a mechanism with Windows Mobile 6.5 for Windows Update for OTA firmware updates.

Please also see the unboxing and hardware tour. Stay tuned for the next segment where we will explore the device’s keyboard and explore some of the ways it will make your typing simpler.
