Sony Ericsson to Launch XPERIA Competitor

Sony Ericsson has released some teaser shots of its 12-megapixel phone, a prize that the tech community was ready to award to Samsung but the Korean firm isn’t delivering at Mobile World Congress. While Sony Ericsson makes Windows Mobile phones under the XPERIA X1 brand, the firm is about to return to its roots with Symbian with a phone that is codenamed the Idou. Details about the Idou are scant except that it will carry with it a 12-megapixel shooter, a full touchscreen, and Xenon flash.

According to Electronista, the phone will be called something else as the Idou name is just a placeholder right now. More details are to be expected during the first half of this year.

Sony Ericsson had used its own proprietory version of Symbian known as UIQ before, but they folded the UIQ interface in favor of Symbian. Is this the next generation Symbian S60? The interface and the phone looks nice and makes the XPERIA’s hardware seems a bit dated. How many people are prepared to trade in their XPERIA for Sony Ericsson’s Symbian monster?
