Sony Ericsson Satio (aka Idou) Hits FCC with GSM Flavor

The Sony Ericsson’s Idou platform is really spec’ed out, running on Symbian S60 smartphone OS and bearing a 12-megapixel camera. The actual hardware behind the Idou platform is called Satio, with a CDMA version called the Kokura, and the Satio has graced the FCC with its presence to obtain regulatory approval.

Despite the bright touchscreen and multimedia-centric approach taken by Sony Ericsson with the S60 platform and Idou, not all is glory for North American users at this time wanting the Satio to hit US shores. So far, the only bands that got FCC approval are the 850 MHz and 1900 MHz bands operating on 2.5G EDGE data. Hopefully, a North American version is forthcoming from the Scandinavian-Japanese joint venture.

With awesome specs for Sony Ericsson’s consumer lineup, including a recently launched Sony Ericsson C905a with an 8-megapixel camera on AT&T that nearly rivals a standalone camera, it begs us to ask when Sony Ericsson will bring its photo and media capabilities to its Windows Mobile lineup, which so far includes the XPERIA X1 and the rumored X2. Windows Mobile is as much about multimedia as the Symbian platform.
