Sighting of Kogan Agora Handset

With the buzz of the new Palm Pre and its Web OS, it's hard to remember the other Linux based Android OS, which the Kogan Agora will be running. Positioned as a competitor to the T-Mobile G1 in terms of other form factors for the Android operating system, the Kogan sports a similar candybar QWERTY design to the Palm Treo Pro and the Samsung Epix.

According to the latest reports, the complete specs won't be finalized until the end of this month. As it stands though, the screen size will remain about the same, with a 2.5-inch square display. According to The Boy Genius Report, "The Agora Pro ($399 AUD / $285 USD) features quad-band EDGE, tri-band HSDPA, 2.5″ 320×240 touch-screen, full-QWERTY keypad, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, WiFi and a 2 megapixel camera. If you choose to save a little bit of cash and get the regular Agora ($299 AUD / $212 USD), then you’ll be sacrificing the GPS, WiFi and the camera."

Furthermore, modmyGphone is stating that the bezel will be black when the device is shipped, instead of the silver which has been commonly pictured.

It looks like the smartphone competition is heating up--Windows Mobile got a few attractive handsets recently with the Touch Diamond/Pro release, BlackBerry with its first touchscreen on the Storm, Android, and the Web OS Palm Pre. Hopefully we'll see more innovations, rather than clones.
