Serius XM Radio now Streaming to Android

Sirius and XM Radio were the first companies to make it big broadcasting music from space. When the two companies merged they promised great things.

One of those was the ability to stream their music to your computer over the internet, no satellite required. Today, with computers and internet access that fit in the palm of our hands, we can stream music there, too.

Barely hitting their promise, Sirius XM has released their Android App “before the end of May”. Before you go heading over to the Market, let me advise you of a few limitations.

– If you already have a subscription, streaming to your Android is going to cost you another $3/month.

– If you don’t have a subscription, after your trial period is over you’ll need to get one; they run anywhere from $7 to $20 per month.

– Not all of your stations are available on Android; notably missing are SIRIUS NASCAR Radio, MLB Play-by-Play, NFL Play-by-Play, and Howard Stern; you can check the full list here.

– You can’t get it from the Market; you’ll need to go here instead.

With Pandora and Slacker both available free in the Market I have to wonder if Sirius is worth the cost. Are their channel offerings that much superior to the free options?
