Imitation is the biggest compliment, and Palm should be more than flattered with the Pre‘s not so pretty twin in the Alcatel OT-980, which is made for carrier Orange. The Alcatel model features a similar form-factor sans the Palm polish and Android instead of webOS on a lower resolution QVGA resistive (instead of capacitive HVGA) touchscreen.
The device seems to be made for the low-end market; the device is expected to retail for $300 prior to carrier subsidies. Specs for the Alcatel smartphone are:
-Android 1.6
-Resistive QVGA (240×320) Touchscreen
-600 MHz processor
-192MB RAM
-2 megapixel camera
-Compass, Accelerometer, WiFi, A-GPS, 3G
-microUSB
-microSD memory card slot
-1150 mAh battery
