Update: Here is some video from PhoneScoop.
The mobile internet device (MID) category is nothing new, being dominated by the Nokia N800 series on the Symbian platform and the HTC Advantage (code-named Athena) platform for Windows Mobile. Samsung is joining the likes of Nokia and HTC in releasing its own MID, offering a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display running Windows Mobile 6.1 called the Samsung Mondi.
The Mondi sports GPS with Route 66 as the navigation software, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 4 GB of on-board storage, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI TV-output, and all the Windows Mobile goodies. According to Gizmodo, the hardware was nicely built and is relatively zippy. No further specs are available.
Hopefully, with WiMax on-board, the 4G carriers committed to WiMax in the US–namely Sprint and ClearWire–will pick the device up. Currently, WiMax is deploye in two markets, Baltimore, MD, and Portland, OR, in the United States.
