Despite the capabilities being available for some time now, it looks like Samsung may be the first memory card maker to bring a 32 GB capacity micro SDHC card to the market. We had spoken with SanDisk at the GDGT meeting in San Francisco this past summer and SanDisk said that there wasn’t enough consumer demand at the time to produce a 32 GB capacity micro SDHC card. It looks like Samsung thinks otherwise, and their 32 GB format should enter production next month.
Additionally, Samsung is also working on getting memory chips up to 64 GB in capacity. The 64GB moviNAND would be implemented as built-in storage. Perhaps, we’ll see a 64 GB iPhone or a next-generation Nokia device soon with higher storage capacity–currently, both Apple and Nokia have some of their phones maxed out at 32 GB of built-in storage.
