Nokia’s USA Comeback: Mako, Grouper, Thresher, Snapper on AT&T

While Symbian S60 is quite popular around the world, it’s relatively a rare OS in the US. However, Nokia is making great strides. The wildly popular cnadybar QWERTY in sleek aluminum enclosure was recently picked up by AT&T as the Nokia E71x for an affordable price with contract. Now, AT&T and Nokia are forging an even stronger relationship. The Mako is a QWERTY slider in a unique, compact form factor that will be coming to Ma Bell with the S60 Feature Pack 2 operating system that was found in the E71x (the unlocked E71 uses Feature Pack 1 instead). AGPS is also on-board on this little device, along with a meager 2-megapixel shooter.

Other handsets to make it to AT&T from Nokia include the Grouper, Snapper, and the Thresher. The Thresher is an ultra-glossy slider that is akin to the Nokia N95, which we had previously reviewed. However, the Thresher will only support a 2-megapixel camera and is a more budget handset running a scaled down Series 40 OS rather than the S60. The Grouper looks like RAZR and even has the chin, and the Snapper is a clamshell, but a bit chunkier. All devices support 3G and AGPS.
