No XPERIA on Android for Awhile
File under: News
Sony Ericsson made the bold move by introducing the
XPERIA X1 using Windows Mobile, straying away from the company's roots with Symbian for the first time on a smartphone. Soon after, the partnership, between Scandinavian Ericsson and Japanese consumer electronics maker Sony, announced that the XPERIA X series franchise may include other platforms in the future, including a possibility for Android. However, the possibility for Android may not be coming that soon after all.
According to
MobileCrunch, Android won't be coming until Sony Ericsson can figure out how to differentiate itself with some new compelling hardware. Whether an Android Sony Ericsson phone will bear the same XPERIA name as part of the X series franchise is yet to be known, but rival Samsung, who makes phones with Windows Mobile and Android, publicly announced that it would reserve the
Omnia branding to Windows Mobile, revoking the Windows Mobile 6.5 set to launch on May 11, hopefully the Sony Ericsson team will release an update for the XPERIA X1. More importantly, we hope to see an X2 that will be launched natively with Windows Mobile 6.5 to compete against some of the
new HTC models.
