Microsoft had acquired the firm TellMe a while back and now the two firms are releasing a product that is coming to fruition for Windows Mobile. Ironically, TellMe’s application has been released for some time now on the BlackBerry platform, but Microsoft will be bringing some of the voice and speech recognition to Windows Mobile. Unlike Voice Command, a Microsoft application, Tell Me will be integrated more into the network to provide more robust functionality.
Microsoft already has a voice command application for Windows Mobile, aptly called Voice Command. Voice Command allows users to open applications, play songs, and dial contacts and numbers. The application already has the capability of announcing and reading text messages, calendar appointments, email subjects, and announce time. Moreover, Microsoft already integrates voice function in its Live Search mapping program as well.
According to CNET, TellMe can perform the basics like dialing a number or contact, opening applications, and performing a search, but it can also do more advanced things like have a user dictate a text message.
TellMe will use Microsoft’s Live Search to search the internet. It will also use GPS or cellular triangulation to provide location-relevant search results.
The application will be released to device makers to bundle beginning today, Wednesday. The public will see the application released in the Fall, where users can download from Windows Marketplace, Microsoft’s forthcoming applications storefront.
