According to Mobilewhack, Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry, has filed for a patent on a new keyboard design with angular keys. Supposedly, the angular keyboard design will be used with a physical keyboard as well as an on-screen keyboard.
If this technology makes typing easier, hopefully we’ll see it licensed by a Windows Mobile manufacturer in the near future.
Also, according to Mobilewhack, future Blackberry models will use a horizontal scroller bar on the front that is similar to the LG Shine. I am not sure if this means that RIM will abandon the trackball used in current models. RIM abandoned the side scroll wheel in favor of the trackball previously. The benefit of the trackball is similar to the directional pad in Windows Mobile in that it enables prompt horizontal and vertical scrolling and is suitable for left and right handed use, but the downside is that it can be over-sensitive sometimes.
