MWC: Aava Mobile Android Phones to Use Moorestown CPU; Fastest Android Phones Launching in Q2 2010?

While Intel’s sitting cozy with Nokia as the two have announced their joint MeeGo OS, Intel’s in the chip business and its Moorestown processor may also be used to power the other open-source Linux-based OS, mainly Android. Aava Mobile, a company that is creating a smartphone reference design for OEMs and ODMs have announced that their hardware and software would be customizable by carriers and manufacturers and that a key part of the hardware may be Intel’s Moorestown processors, scheduled to launch in the second quarter.

Intel claims that the Moorestown processor will be faster than the ARM Cortex A9 chipset, and if that proves to be true, the fastest Android devices may come in the second quarter of the year–Qualcomm Snapdragon chips are based off of ARM designs.

The CEO of Aava made a reference stating that the software side can either be customized with Android or Moblin–since Intel and Nokia have mashed their respective Linux OSes into MeeGo, we’re hoping that Aava means MeeGo OS.

The hardware specs seem pretty impressive, including HD video conferencing:

-Extended touch screen (full A cover – front cover is touch sensitive) with haptics/vibra feedback

-Full HD video capability

-Micro USB OTG (also for peripherals like external mouse, keyboard, storage or docking station).

-HD video conferencing (front-facing camera with facial and gesture recognition – software dependent)

-2 microphones (echo cancellation )

-3D UI and 3D sound for high-end gaming experience

-GSM network (3G) for voice and data

-Accelerometer, 3D compass, GPS, Wi-Fi

The Moorestown processor will also be used inside the MeeGo-based LG GW990, which was first shown at CES.
