Mobinnova ICE Software Tour
File under: News
In this video, we cover the software of the ICE, and find that beyond the sleek design of the phone, the software is flawed. There are three usability issues that we point out in this video: the OLED screen is mostly a novelty and is cumbersome to use, the permanent row of icons takes up precious screen space and can cause mispresses because of their vicinity to the soft keys, and finally, the WQVGA screen is actually a QVGA screen, which leads to a pixelated image that is reminiscent of device from three years ago.
With that said, it's nice to see Mobinnova try to build their own interface on top of Windows Mobile - but the design of the interface (white on black) isn't particularly cutting edge, nor is it efficient because all of the menu items are hidden behind the permanent buttons, and so multiple presses are required to do many things.
The saving grace for the ICE will be its price - it will be sold for under $500 via eXpansys, which puts in rightly into the "budget" realm for a smartphone device.
In case you missed it, check out the unboxing and hardware tour of the ICE. We'll cover everything in full in the upcoming review!
