Microsoft Lures Developers to SkyMarket

Ever dream about that wonderful marketplace in the cloud? Evidence for SkyMarket is building up, making a release soon and possibly–as solid as rumors have it anyways–ready by Mobile World Congress in February. According to WMPowerUser, Redmond is offering free application certifications to developers so applications can be signed and added to the Windows Mobile catalog.

Application certification allows Windows Mobile applications to be “signed.” Some Windows Mobile devices will only install applications that are signed, as a security precaution. Signed applications show authenticity and ensure that the application hasn’t been modified to allow for malware or viruses. Usually, the certification, or signing process, will cost developers money.

Developers can submit their applications to Innovate On, a web resource for developers created by Microsoft.

Here’s to hoping, but it would be awesome to see many of the tweaks that are presented as little cab installers on XDA-Developers submitted and be available through SkyMarket.
