iPhone Woes Causes AT&T to Delay Launch Dates

With the iPhone launch and a plethora of problems both on the handset and on the carrier end, AT&T is now taking a more cautious approach when it comes to smartphone launches, with the latest victim being Research in Motion. Hopefully other handsets rumored to launch on the carrier won’t be affected, including the Touch Pro (AT&T Fuze), the Mirage (Samsung Omnia), and the Epix (similar to the Samsung i780).

According to Research in Motion, its BlackBerry Bold handset is scheduled for launch this summer, but the Associated Press is reporting in a Yahoo! News article that as late as this Thursday, the Bold is still undergoing testing by the carrier. RIM’s CEO attributes the extensive testing to the snafu created by the iPhone:

“There’s great scrutiny, as you might know, on that network and a certain device. So I guess everyone wants to be sure on every last test,” Lazaridis told The Associated Press.

Mid to late October is the rumored release date for the Touch Pro on AT&T. The device is said to debut on the carrier taking on the Fuze branding.
