iPhone vs Smartphone Market - Analysts Weigh In

File under: News

Over at BrightHand, Ed Hardy has posted an article discussing the implications of the iPhone launch on the existing Smartphone field. Interestingly, the analysts are predicting that the Treo line will take a bigger hit than Windows Mobile:

When asked how this combination phone and iPod will affect sales of current models, T. Michael Walkley, wireless hardware analyst for Piper Jaffray, said that he believes Palm, Inc. will be the company most affected by the iPhone, as it doesn't have a new, compelling Treo to compete.

In my opinion, it appears that Palm OS Treos have fallen upon a certain demographic, i.e. those who do not like the WM OS and/or interface, or just want another option. With the introduction of the iPhone, there'll be yet another alternative to the WM platform. Image courtesy of Palminfocenter.
