Internet Explorer Is Really “6 on 6″ for 6.1 Devices Too

Microsoft has released some more details on Pocket Internet Explorer 6. Some rumors before had it that the major browser update would be available only on Windows Mobile 6.5 and above, but that is not the case as Pocket Internet Explorer will be available on 6.1 devices or higher with a big caveat.

The major thing is that the browser requires hardware support. the::unwired is reporting that devices must run Windows Mobile 6.1 AKU 1.4 or above with the following hardware requirement:

-128 MG RAM or more

-400 MHz processor or better

Additionally, the browser update will not be available as a user-installable cab file. Rather, it will be available to manufacturers to release as a Windows Mobile update that contains AKU 1.4 or better.

So the positive thing is that Windows Mobile 6.1 will get Pocket Internet Explorer 6.1, but the sad news is that you’re tied to HTC, Samsung, or whatever device manufacturer makes your smartphone.
