Nine months ago we heard Intel and Nokia joined forces to combine their Linux-based platforms into a single package called MeeGo – made of mixing Maemo and Moblin cores.

AMD, Intel’s main competitor, has announced today — at the MeeGo Conference 2010 — that the company has joined The Linux Foundation’s MeeGo open source Linux project. Designed primarily for mobile phones, ultra-mobile notebooks and tablets, MeeGo is an open-source mobile operating system that was built from ground-up and Ben Bar-Haim, AMD’s corporate vice president for software development said the company is “glad to provide engineering resources to joint industry efforts like MeeGo and expect that this operating system will help drive our embedded plans and create expanded market opportunities for our forthcoming Accelerated Processing Units”. Will this weaken Intel’s position with MeeGo or is it AMD’s wanting a piece of the pie? What do you say about a platform developed by big guns like Nokia, Intel and AMD?
