In an editorial earlier, we postulated that Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7 can have the potential of competing with the Apple iSlate in its power, prowess, and versatility, but it seems that the rise of Windows Mobile 7 should have Android tablets concerned. HTC Australia’s Marketing Director, in an interview, both confirmed that the company is working on an Android tablet, but also that HTC is now placing its tablet project on hold and is “focusing their efforts on a new generation of mobile phones.” Could the HTC Android tablet project be displaced by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7′s capabilities moving into the future?

The HTC-made Android tablet was supposed to have a special UI to make it an e-reader alternative. HTC is currently involved in several mobile platforms–Windows Mobile, Android, and its own feature-phone OS.
