Google Maps with Navigation Comes to Android 1.6; Not for Hero

Google has decided to port their awesome OTA turn-by-turn, voice guided GPS apps dubbed Google Maps with Navigation, which first debuted on Android 2.0 on the Motorola Droid, to Android 1.6.

This means that T-Mobile fans who have been using the new myTouch 3G and the G1 should be able to get Navigation the easy way, rather than through hackery. Unfortunately, however, Android 1.5 devices are left in the cold for now, and those devices include the HTC Hero with its awesome Sense UI. The Hero may get Navigation in due time as HTC had promised an Android 2.0 upgrade for the device, though the carrier versions of the Hero, like the Sprint Hero, will be up to the carriers to decide if an upgrade will be coming.
