FCC Clears CDMA HTC Hero; Classifies Hero as a "Pocket PC Phone"

It's long been rumored now that the HTC Hero will be making a US debut--not in its GSM incarnation--on a CDMA network, and most likely on Sprint. The North American version of the Hero will eschew the European GSM and 3G bands for North American flavors and run on CDMA/EVDO for high speed internet access.

The FCC clearance in itself is not noteworthy as all cellular and communications devices must get regulatory approval for use in the US. However, what is worth noting is that the FCC is calling the Android OS Hero a pocket PC phone; "Pocket PC" is the brand name for Windows Mobile before Microsoft began calling its smartphones and PDAs Windows Mobile.
