Epix, Treo Pro to Get Touch Competition from BlackBerry Magnum

AT&T’s lineup is getting a bit more revealing and provocative. This is definitely the AT&T leak weekend and the latest leak to come is from Research in Motion by the way of the BlackBerry Magnum, a QWERTY handset that shares its roots with the traditional BlackBerry of yore and has the keyboard and touchscreen of the Samsung Epix, the Treo Pro, and the HP iPAQ K3.

The leaked slide on Engadget Mobile does not specify a launch date or name, although Magnum is the development name referred to internally. The screen will be touch-enabled on a half-VGA (HVGA) display. No launch date has been specified.

It will be interesting to see how Research in Motion leverages the BlackBerry Magnum in light of tough competition coming from the keyboard-only camp with the Jack, Snap, and Nokia E71 and those devices with touchscreens like the Epix, Treos, and iPhone–two of which also offers a full hardware keyboard. Also, non-touch devices have screens that perform better in sunlight, although capacitive displays are better performers under sun than the resistive touch displays used by Windows Mobile devices of today.
