Desktop-Class Adobe Flash 10.1 Comes to Windows Mobile End of Year

While Windows Mobile devices already support Flash Lite, a less robust version of Adobe Flash Player for mobile devices, it looks like Adobe is pumping more power into the small smartphones. Windows Mobile, along with Symbian, Android, and webOS are scheduled to receive the desktop-class version of Flash 10.1. This is part of Adobe's project--and falls in line with Microsoft's vision--for the Open Screen Project, to create unity between the desktop, laptop, and mobile screen; Microsoft stated that it wants to make the television, computer, and smartphone space converge for users.

In the latest report, it seems that Windows Mobile and webOS will get the early love, with public betas arriving at the end of the year. iPhone users, who are under the tight grips of Apple, may be left out of the fun--then again, having full Flash on your device can actually be annoying if you have pop-up banners and ads ruining the clean browsing experience.

Flash 10.1 for smartphones will also make use of GPU acceleration for those who have a smartphone powerful enough to use Flash on their mobile device. The platform will support the Tegra chipset, Snapdragon, and ION for up to 1080p video content. Perhaps, we can have a full, desktop-like browsing experience on the Toshiba TG01, which has the supported Snapdragon processor, or even on the version of Internet Explorer on the Tegra-powered Zune HD.
