CTIA 2011: Pre-Conference Overview

The 2011 CTIA Wireless expo doesn’t officially kick off until tomorrow, but today’s Pre-Conference has still been an exciting way to ramp up for the event. We’ve learned a lot today about upcoming smartphones, but more than anything we’ve seen indications about what’s still on the menu for the rest of CTIA. Take a look at what we’ve come across so far, and what we’re still waiting to see:

Sprint announced its WiMAX-enabled Nexus S this morning, already up for pre-orders with its retail partner Best Buy. Besides the 4G support, there’s nothing changed from its 3G T-Mobile cousin, but why mess with a good thing?

Sprint also had some specs to show for its EVO View 4G tablet and the EVO 3D Android phone. The EVO 3D looks like a downright beast, with 1.2GHz dual core CPU, qHD graphics, and a no-glasses-needed 3D screen. We’re anxiously awaiting to hear more from Sprint about these models, and will be reporting back after its press event tomorrow.

T-Mobile’s been getting ready to show off the dual-core LG Optimus 2X, now going as the T-Mobile G2x. Despite the name change, it should still have the same Tegra 2 powering it that we’ve been excited to see since hearing about the phone last year.

We’re hoping to catch a glimpse of the HTC Pyramid, which may also sport a qHD resolution screen for some really crisp graphics. We’ve been wondering if its 1.2GHz processor is a dual or single core, and this may be our chance to find out.

AT&T’s got the LG Optimus 3D renamed to the LG Thrill 4G, which, like the EVO 3D, empowers its users to create their own 3D videos. Windows Phone 7 fans will be interested in the HTC HD7S, the carrier’s take on T-Mobile’s HD7, now with NoDo pre-installed.

Nokia was preparing to start showing off the once-C7-now-Astound, which it’s since confirmed will be available with T-Mobile for $80, starting on April 6.

We’ll be scrambling to keep you up-to-date on all CTIA smartphone revelations as we learn about them. Are there any models in particular you’d like us looking out for?
