Prior to when Palm had placed Windows Mobile on their Treo line, many people thought that when that day comes hell would freeze over. The latest reports from
The Boy Genius Report seems to indicate that there could be a possible acquisition of Research in Motion by the Redmond giant that may make it possible to put Windows Mobile on BlackBerry devices. The acquisition will probably deal more with getting Exchange technology deployed to enterprise consumers than the hardware behind the BlackBerry; Microsoft had previously stated that it won't make Windows Mobile hardware itself, but would rather leave that to its manufacturing partners like Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, and others.
The report seems to suggest that Microsoft will be ready to make the purchase should RIM stocks fall to $40 or below. As it stands, the Canadian-based handheld maker is at $60 per share, or a market capitalization of $34 billion. At $40 per share, Microsoft would need to dish out $28 billion.
