Most phones are not even rugged let alone being waterproof. However, a special coating from Golden Shellback can make virtually any phone waterproof, as is demonstrated over at Gizmodo. The coating is virtually impossible to detect and the phone feels like a normal phone. The video shows a BlackBerry making a call while still being underwater.

The company hopes to extend the technology into other areas besides mobile phones, including medical technology. Hopefully more gadgets get coated in this as it may make waterproof gadgets cheaper. I know of many people who have accidently dropped their phones in the pool.
