Bing! Your Search Results Are Ready Via Microsoft

Yet another search engine in another crowded space, but Microsoft is hoping to regain marketshare in the search war against Google according to the latest reports. Sources say that Microsoft may be looking to rebrand its search engine Live Search into Bing to compete better with Google. The firm is already readying a massive $80 million advertising campaign against the worldwide leading incumbent in a similar strategy that it is waging against Apple for the desktop and operating system war.

Bing is the result of a codenamed Kumo project. Although resulting text searches won't change much, media search will be changed. Hopefully, there is enough synergy inside Microsoft so that a Bing Mobile client will be launched with Windows Mobile and other competing platforms. Google has already launched its search clients on Java-enabled phones and the iPhone and recently Yahoo! has abandoned its projects on most phones and chose instead to focus entirely on the iPhone. Microsoft has an opportunity to target mobile search in this regard as smartphones, netbooks, and mobile internet devices become more useful and powerful.

The current Live Search client for Windows Mobile focuses more on mapping, travel, and points of interests. You can also read our direct head-to-head competition between Live Search and Google Maps Mobile.
