Android Rips Off Touch Diamond
File under: News
Some in the tech community didn't like the hardware that Android was released on, claiming that the T-Mobile G1 should have been the Touch Pro. It looks like General Mobile took that suggestion to heart with the DSTL1 Android handset, making it look similar to another member of the Touch family--the Touch Diamond.
Originally, when released, Android required a physical keyboard. However, as the new Android update will be released, newer devices can drop the hardware keyboard in favor of an on-screen touch keyboard. DSTL1 will be one of the models that eschews a bulky hardware keyboard and follow the route of the slimmer Touch Diamond.
According to Engadget Mobile, the major thing pulling this handset down is the WQVGA display--Android needs to hop on the WVGA/VGA bandwagon. Other specs include: FM radio, 5-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage with expandable memory card to increase capabilities. The device will be rocking dual-SIMs, but is limited to EDGE coverage. General Mobile be releasing two variants of this model, with each supporting varying tri-band EDGE capabilities. Come on, General Mobile, let's make this at least a quad-band EDGE device if you are not giving us 3G!
