A recent study by Gartner speculates that the 28% drop in Windows Mobile market share from 11% to 7% of the smartphone market could be attributed to Android being perceived as a more fun platform whereas the Microsoft OS is more business oriented. While Windows Mobile has dropped in market share, the nascent Android platform captured 4% of smartphone sales. Hopefully, Windows Mobile 7, which is rumored to be a thorough overhaul, will help Microsoft capture market share and mindshare.
