In December 2009, a ChangeWave analysis reports that Android has captured 4% of the smartphone market, an increase of 200% since the previous quarter's numbers in September.

Moreover, what is significant is that in December 21% of surveyed respondents state that they would consider Android as their platform, an increase from 6% wanting to purchase a handset with the platform from the previous quarter. It looks like the Motorola Droid is leading the charge with the Nexus One following behind. It looks like since Windows Mobile 6.5 has been launched, Windows Mobile has declined from 9% to 6% as the choice mobile OS for future smartphone purchases.

Motorola and HTC are each benefiting as users are hoping to buy their handsets from those two firms. Motorola is seeing an increase from 1% to 13% and HTC an increase from 5 to 9% of future smartphone buyers selecting a smartphone device from their portfolios.
