Acer Eyes AT&T for Smartphone Sales After In-Roads with Netbook

After scoring some large netbook deals with AT&T, with the carrier offering subsidies on the Acer Aspire One netbook, Acer is looking at a more important and growing smartphone market with the wireless carrier. The Acer-AT&T partnership already landed netbooks at a number of Radio Shack stores for about $80-$100 with a two-year agreement on a data contract, but the deal is now expanding to Costco Wholesale warehouses.

While the deal brings the already popular netbook brand to even more American consumers, it seems that Acer is looking to fortify its relationship with AT&T to get other products into the US market. The Acer smartphone brand has been relatively unknown as the market in the US has been dominated by HTC, Samsung, LG, and now to a lesser extent HP and Palm. Acer, which has bought E-TEN, is looking to make a huge push in the smartphone space.
