pocketnow.com skipped CES this year because we knew that given that we are in the midst of a transition from Windows Mobile 6 to…something else (6.5 and/or 7)…there would little of interest at CES that deals with the platform. Next year will be an interesting year for WinMo at CES, and we’ll be there to bring it to you. That said, here’s a look at what went down.
We started off the Steve Ballmer’s keynote where there was little talk of Windows Mobile, except for the announcement of a slick Netflix application, plus further confirmation that IE6 Mobile is coming soon. It’s no secret that Microsoft has a big announcement in about a month at the Mobile World Congress, so we were kind of expecting Ballmer’s keynote to skip this territory.
Motorola was there with a dialed-down version of the Moto Q9h – the Q11, which is headed towards South America sans 3G radio. Moto also was showing off the new Surf A3100, which sports a pebble-like shape and TouchFLO 3D-like interface, but forgets the high resolution screen. Also, we saw the Mobinnova ICE, which sports a secondary OLED display, but doesn’t fair to well in the quality department. And finally, we learned of the second coming of the Shadow, know as…the Shadow (and not Shadow 2)…which will come in two colors and be the first Windows Mobile to support UMA hotspot calling on T-Mobile (more pics at WMExperts).
