CES 2010: The Year for Mobile TV? FLO TV and Tivit at CES

It looks like CES 2010 is debuting some mobile television concepts, which thus far has not gained traction in the US. Mobile TV have started making its way on some US handsets, such as the Verizon Wireless HTC Imagio running Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional and has V-Cast TV, a version of Qualcomm’s MediaFLO technology that requires a monthly subscription. Now, there are two contenders to the market making adapters for your current smartphones via accessories.

The first of which is Tivit, which we had briefly posted before, a device that uses a blackbox to capture digital television signal–free and requires no monthly charge–and streams it over to your device via a free application over WiFi.

The second is from FLO TV, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, and is an integrated design for the iPhone. FLO TV will be working with Mophie, makers of the Mophie Juice Pack–an extended battery add-on in a form-fitting case made unique for the iPhone. Essentially, the Mophie Juice Pack would have an embedded chip for FLO TV add-on, much like the integrated solution inside the HTC Imagio on Verizon Wireless.
