The last few months of 2013 brought us rumor after rumor about the Sony Xperia Z1s, a supposed international version of Japan's Z1f – and with both phones more plainly described as the Z1 Mini. While we were off to a good start, apparently some of the lines got crossed, and news of the Z1S got mingled with the launch of a new version of the Z1 for Chinese radio bands. We're still not sure just where all the pieces might fall, but today we get new hope that an international Z1 Mini launch is still pending, with word of another development out of China. The invitation you see up above, for ...

Rumors about an international version of Japan's Sony Xperia Z1f – the Z1 “Mini” - have created a fair deal of confusion in recent weeks, as the leaks surrounding this so-called Z1s seemed to branch off into two directions: one towards an international Z1 Mini as we were expecting, and one towards a hardware refresh of the full-sized Z1 itself. While we're still waiting to get the full picture on the Z1 Mini, today we finally see what was happening down that other road, as a new version of the Z1 for China gets revealed. While the original Xperia Z1 is Sony's model L39h, this new one ...

For months now, we've been waiting to get the full story on Sony's plans for introducing a smartphone like the Xperia Z1f – what's essentially an Xperia Z1 Mini – to markets outside of Japan. What might seem straightforward has led us down a rabbit hole of confusion; first we thought that this handset might arrive as the Z1s, and saw a number of leaks to that effect, but more recently the possibility has emerged that the Z1s is more like a variant of the full-sized Z1, and this international Z1f would be named differently. Today we see the model pass through the FCC, and while it may ...

What the heck is going on with Sony and its plans for what we've been calling the Xperia Z1s? If you haven't been keeping up with the story, it's a real puzzle: Sony introduced a mini version of the Xperia Z1 as the Xperia Z1f in Japan. Then we saw a leaked model claiming to be the Xperia Z1s, an international version of the Z1f. Except, in the weeks that followed, all these leaks didn't end up forming a cohesive story, and we're left with bits and pieces of hardware that don't seem to match others, as well as the possibility that the so-called Z1s isn't another Z1f variant, but an updated ...

Ready for a noodle-scratcher? You might want to sit down. For a little over a month now, we've been tracking leaks and rumors about the Sony Xperia Z1s. It started off with a name and a render, and we later saw a number of in-the-wild pics and even witnessed the name briefly appear on Sony's site. So much seemed certain about this phone: that it would be the international version of the Japan-only Xperia Z1f, with both models essentially playing the role of an Xperia Z1 mini. But then last week we heard some odd rumors suggesting that the name Z1s wasn't quite right, but leaving us ...

Rumor was, Sony intended to launch the international version of the Xperia Z1F – the Z1S, unofficially known as the Z1 mini – last week, but the manufacturer ultimately failed to deliver. That didn't stop us from getting a new look at the hardware, and as we sit back and wait for this phone to finally go official, we've got a couple new pics to check out, and some fresh chatter about its launch name to pore through. This time, we step things up from simply appearing alongside a ruler for scale, and we get the regular-sized Xperia Z1 itself to directly compare against. It's unfortunate ...

If you haven't heard about the Sony Xperia Z1f yet, pay attention: this is the so-called Z1 mini, and it's really captured out interest by offering full-sized performance, instead of the sort of skimping on internal components that all to often befalls the fate of similar “mini” versions of flagships. While the Z1f itself doesn't show any signs of popping up outside Japan, we've been tracking rumors of an Xperia Z1s, which would be the international version of the very same hardware. Now, the rumored press event for yesterday never took to place to launch the phone, but we have seen ...

About a month ago, we finally saw how rumors about an Xperia Z1 Mini would actually hit the market, with the handset launching as the Xperia Z1f. What made this phone really stand out is that unlike the majority of shrunken-down versions of flagship models, this one kept much of the same great hardware, with a Snapdragon 800 and 20.1MP camera, despite only a 4.3-inch display. It sounded fantastic, but the Z1f was to stay put in Japan. Instead, new rumors arrived suggesting that an international version would ship as the Z1s, and specifically we heard that Sony might be planning to launch ...

Earlier this month, we saw Sony do something that's become a holy grail of sorts for the smartphone industry, releasing a smaller version of a flagship handset while maintaining the same quality of hardware. This was the Xperia Z1f, marrying a Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, and 20.1-megapixel camera with a 4.3-inch 720p display. Unfortunately, this dream come true was tempered by the fact that the Z1f is a Japan exclusive. But then we saw some hope arrive in the from of the Xperia Z1S, which leaks suggested could become the international version of the Z1f. Today we hear a little about how ...

We'll admit that even though the Xperia Z1f was a Japanese exclusive, we did like the concept we though we'd never get. What made this phone special, is that this would be one of the few phones in the market to sport all the same flagship specs of the Xperia Z1, but in a smaller chassis. Usually this never happens, as in the past if you wanted a phone with flagship specs, you simply had to accept this phone to be big. As it turns out we've landed some leaks of the new Xperia Z1S, which seems to retain the same concept of the Xperia Z1f, only that for a broader market than just Japan. If ...
