By now, you probably know that the Sony Xperia Z1S isn't arriving like we expected - as another spin on the Z1F. So if the Z1S is that different, larger hardware, what about the idea of an international Z1F - the one with the 4.3-inch 720p screen and the Snapdragon 800? Enter: the Xperia Z1 Compact. While small, it still looks extremely powerful, and it's waterproof to boot. At CES 2014 in Las Vegas, we were able to swing by Sony's presentation and get a look at the Z1 Compact in the flesh. Let's see if all this waiting is really going to be worth it:

What the heck is going on with Sony and its plans for what we've been calling the Xperia Z1s? If you haven't been keeping up with the story, it's a real puzzle: Sony introduced a mini version of the Xperia Z1 as the Xperia Z1f in Japan. Then we saw a leaked model claiming to be the Xperia Z1s, an international version of the Z1f. Except, in the weeks that followed, all these leaks didn't end up forming a cohesive story, and we're left with bits and pieces of hardware that don't seem to match others, as well as the possibility that the so-called Z1s isn't another Z1f variant, but an updated ...

Ready for a noodle-scratcher? You might want to sit down. For a little over a month now, we've been tracking leaks and rumors about the Sony Xperia Z1s. It started off with a name and a render, and we later saw a number of in-the-wild pics and even witnessed the name briefly appear on Sony's site. So much seemed certain about this phone: that it would be the international version of the Japan-only Xperia Z1f, with both models essentially playing the role of an Xperia Z1 mini. But then last week we heard some odd rumors suggesting that the name Z1s wasn't quite right, but leaving us ...

If you haven't heard about the Sony Xperia Z1f yet, pay attention: this is the so-called Z1 mini, and it's really captured out interest by offering full-sized performance, instead of the sort of skimping on internal components that all to often befalls the fate of similar “mini” versions of flagships. While the Z1f itself doesn't show any signs of popping up outside Japan, we've been tracking rumors of an Xperia Z1s, which would be the international version of the very same hardware. Now, the rumored press event for yesterday never took to place to launch the phone, but we have seen ...

The Sony Xperia Z1 flagship is getting a smaller version, however, only in Japan, for the moment. The new Sony Xperia Z1F has been reportedly announced at a DoCoMo event and is apparently packing all the internals of the Z1 in a smaller form factor. We're looking at a 4.3-inch 720p screen, underneath which you'll find powerhouse internals: a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 20.1MP camera -- same as the one on the Z1 -- NFC, wireless charging, as well as a 2,300mAh battery. Android 4.2.2 is the platform of choice and the available ...
