It's iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s launch day, and we can't think of a better way to commemorate the event than with a Pocketnow Weekly podcast. Actually, yes we can: it would be great to take a look back at Apple's pre-iPhone days with the spectacular failure that was the Motorola "iTunes phone" of 2005 - fortunately, we already took care of that yesterday. So we'll discuss the MOTOROKR E1 a little bit on today's Weekly, before delving in to the fresh new take on mobile software that Apple's iOS 7 represents. Then we'll revert back to twiddling our thumbs waiting for the UPS guy - but we'll ...

In this Sony Xperia Z1 vs Samsung Galaxy S 4 video we're taking a look at the similarities and differences between the two flagships. One has just been launched, and we already met it in person both in Berlin and in our labs, with the occasion of our unboxing, while the other is a respectable member of the elite Android phones money can buy today. There are a lot more similarities between the two than you'd think; there are also just as many differences between them. The Z1 has the highest megapixel count on an Android phone today, but is it enough to compete with one of the best Android ...

There were various reports earlier that claimed the Sony Xperia Z1 camera breaks upon tinkering with the device's bootloader and now Sony has made an official statement about the issue. "Warning! At the moment, unlocking the Xperia™ Z1 boot loader will stop the camera functionality. Note that Xperia™ Z1 is not listed among the supported devices", says the official wording. There is no workaround, at the moment, but Sony is not really in a position where they could let that happen, so we're assuming there's a fix being cooked up somewhere in the company's labs. We've just recently ...

Oooh, the Sony Xperia Z1! We've heard so much about this phone, dubbed the "Honami", and we were so anxious to meet it in person at the 2013 IFA in Berlin, that we couldn't help but quickly comparing it to the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S 4. It has now landed in our European labs for the full review treatment. We're going to analyze it, compare it, submerge it, and review it. ...but first, we'll have to unbox it, and that's exactly what we're doing in this video, taking a look at what's inside the box, the presentation, bundled accessories, and our first impression, should you decide ...

Sony came to this year's IFA 2013 with the Xperia Z1, among others, and we not only had some quality hands-on time with the phone, but we also did a quick and dirty comparison between Sony's latest and greatest, and the Samsung Galaxy S 4, as well as HTC's flagship for 2013, the One. If you live in the UK, or want to import the 2013 Sony flagship, you can now grab it from our friends at Clove. It goes for £470.00 (£564.00 with VAT), which is about $900 unlocked, but you'll get a free SmartWatch 2 as well as Sony content for free. The phone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core ...

We've been bringing you our best quality mobile-tech podcast once a week for over a year now, and we're not about to break that streak on one of the biggest tech weeks of the year. Sure, we might've missed our usual Wednesday/Thursday time slot, and we might've even technically missed the weekend dividing line, depending on what time zone you're in - but you know what? We've just capped off four days of intense video coverage with a midnight podcast from one of the most echo-filled hotel rooms in all of Berlin, and we're uploading it through the technological equivalent of a 1999-era AOL ...

We know you hate to wait, loyal listeners, but the torrent of smartphones and tablets at IFA 2013 has blown our schedule right apart this week. From the Galaxy Note 3, Note 10.1 2014, and Galaxy Gear to the Sony Xperia Z1 to the new Acer Liquid S2 phablet, our video queue hasn't stopped churning - and more features are funneling down the pipe even as we write this. The time to sit down and podcast just hasn't materialized. But that doesn't mean we're about to go our first week in over a year without an episode of the Pocketnow Weekly tech podcast! Keep your ears primed (and your eyes on ...

We just got done showing you how Sony's new Android smartphone, the Xperia Z1 with its 20.7-megapixel camera, held up against Samsung's 2013 juggernaut, the Galaxy S 4. The GS4 might be a huge commercial success, but when it came to picking a favorite phone from the first half of the year, plenty of us here were leaning towards a preference for the HTC One, instead. It only follows, then: if we want to form an impression of how the Xperia Z1 compares to the cream of the crop of this year's Androids, that's going to mean not only checking it out in contrast to the GS4, but the HTC One, as ...

The big 20.7-megapixel camera on Sony's new Xperia Z1 will no doubt get the smartphone a fair amount of attention; in Android-land, especially, for users comparing raw specs, it's going to be hard to find anything that really measures-up. But even with that ace in the hole, Sony's handset is going to face some stiff competition from higher-profile phones already on the market, and few get any higher-profile than the Samsung Galaxy S 4. Sure, the GS4 has evolved a lot since it first launched, with new models like the waterproof GS4 Active and the LTE-Advanced GS4 with its Snapdragon 800 ...

Sure, we heard some scattered earlier announcements in the days leading up to Sony's IFA press event, but when we're talking about major events from the companies we traveled all that way to see, it was Sony who really got things started for the IFA this year with its Wednesday announcement of the Xperia Z1. After following development of this handset through all the leaks of codename Honami, we were well curious to finally get a chance to check it out for ourselves. While the Z1 may not go to quite the lengths of the Nokia Lumia 1020, it's one of the growing number of smartphones placing ...

We later go through the sales performance of the Moto X outside the United States. We end today's show talking about Samsung, their Galaxy Note 3, their Galaxy Gear, and their Galaxy Note 10.1. I still remember the time when Brandon unboxed the first-ever Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. There's simply no way that anyone from our times can forget that phone. That gorgeous HTC design, the curved keyboard, and that unique card-based UI was code for the best Windows Mobile smartphone of that year, and in full honesty, it's been the best Windows Mobile phone I ever saw, and could never afford. Sony Ericsson's implementation of Android has been a different story, and one to be really upset about. The hardware was always there when it came to design, but then the engineers in charge of ...

Sony's getting us started with the big IFA events this week, taking its latest lineup of products to Berlin to share with us all. While we came to IFA to get the smartphone news, Sony's products cover a much wider swath. The company began today talking about things like new 4K displays, digital cameras, and camcorders, but even there we got some smartphone-related news. One thing we've talked about for a while is the need for Sony to better promote integration between all its device families, and it looks like it's attempting to do just that with its One-touch system. Supported devices ...
