We've been bringing you our best quality mobile-tech podcast once a week for over a year now, and we're not about to break that streak on one of the biggest tech weeks of the year. Sure, we might've missed our usual Wednesday/Thursday time slot, and we might've even technically missed the weekend dividing line, depending on what time zone you're in - but you know what? We've just capped off four days of intense video coverage with a midnight podcast from one of the most echo-filled hotel rooms in all of Berlin, and we're uploading it through the technological equivalent of a 1999-era AOL ...

We know you hate to wait, loyal listeners, but the torrent of smartphones and tablets at IFA 2013 has blown our schedule right apart this week. From the Galaxy Note 3, Note 10.1 2014, and Galaxy Gear to the Sony Xperia Z1 to the new Acer Liquid S2 phablet, our video queue hasn't stopped churning - and more features are funneling down the pipe even as we write this. The time to sit down and podcast just hasn't materialized. But that doesn't mean we're about to go our first week in over a year without an episode of the Pocketnow Weekly tech podcast! Keep your ears primed (and your eyes on ...

We just got done showing you how Sony's new Android smartphone, the Xperia Z1 with its 20.7-megapixel camera, held up against Samsung's 2013 juggernaut, the Galaxy S 4. The GS4 might be a huge commercial success, but when it came to picking a favorite phone from the first half of the year, plenty of us here were leaning towards a preference for the HTC One, instead. It only follows, then: if we want to form an impression of how the Xperia Z1 compares to the cream of the crop of this year's Androids, that's going to mean not only checking it out in contrast to the GS4, but the HTC One, as ...

The big 20.7-megapixel camera on Sony's new Xperia Z1 will no doubt get the smartphone a fair amount of attention; in Android-land, especially, for users comparing raw specs, it's going to be hard to find anything that really measures-up. But even with that ace in the hole, Sony's handset is going to face some stiff competition from higher-profile phones already on the market, and few get any higher-profile than the Samsung Galaxy S 4. Sure, the GS4 has evolved a lot since it first launched, with new models like the waterproof GS4 Active and the LTE-Advanced GS4 with its Snapdragon 800 ...

Sure, we heard some scattered earlier announcements in the days leading up to Sony's IFA press event, but when we're talking about major events from the companies we traveled all that way to see, it was Sony who really got things started for the IFA this year with its Wednesday announcement of the Xperia Z1. After following development of this handset through all the leaks of codename Honami, we were well curious to finally get a chance to check it out for ourselves. While the Z1 may not go to quite the lengths of the Nokia Lumia 1020, it's one of the growing number of smartphones placing ...

I still remember the time when Brandon unboxed the first-ever Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. There's simply no way that anyone from our times can forget that phone. That gorgeous HTC design, the curved keyboard, and that unique card-based UI was code for the best Windows Mobile smartphone of that year, and in full honesty, it's been the best Windows Mobile phone I ever saw, and could never afford. Sony Ericsson's implementation of Android has been a different story, and one to be really upset about. The hardware was always there when it came to design, but then the engineers in charge of ...

Sony's getting us started with the big IFA events this week, taking its latest lineup of products to Berlin to share with us all. While we came to IFA to get the smartphone news, Sony's products cover a much wider swath. The company began today talking about things like new 4K displays, digital cameras, and camcorders, but even there we got some smartphone-related news. One thing we've talked about for a while is the need for Sony to better promote integration between all its device families, and it looks like it's attempting to do just that with its One-touch system. Supported devices ...

Watch today's Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Apple's September 10th event, where we expect to see the official launch of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and iOS 7. We could easily dub this as the iPhone 5 event, but we still don't have an official name for the invite. Then we go through Google's silent announcement of Android's next version name, which will be Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Then we go through the Sony Xperia Z1 leaked press information, aside from more details on the Cybershot X. We then talk about the Motorola DVX, which is the affordable companion of the Moto X. We end today's show ...

Sony's big IFA event takes place tomorrow, and with the teasers the company's been publishing, there's been little doubt that it would launch the phone we've been following as codename Honami. While there's still plenty to look forward to from tomorrow's event, including the details on those Smart Short lens camera accessories, the cat may already be out of the bag when it comes to Honami, as the official Sony press release announcing the phone seems to have leaked a day early. Assuming this is legitimate – and it certainly has the trappings of a Sony press release – Honami will see ...

That's right, it's about that time for IFA 2013 to happen, and you can bet we'll be covering every inch of the show floor in Berlin. This has historically been the event for phablets, and a couple of other surprises. Whether it's LG, HTC, Sony or Samsung, there is a lot to expect from this event in both old and new categories. One of these new and emerging categories is the smart watch, and we know the Samsung Galaxy Gear will be a device we'll be covering extensively. Make sure you share your thoughts and predictions on what you expect to see at this event as well, and stay tuned for tons ...

The Samsung Galaxy Note III will be announced on September 4 in Berlin; that's a certainty! Also certain are some of its upcoming specifications, judging by previous models, their relationships with the S-line, and Samsung's general policy on devices. We've already seen the purported white face of the phablet but what nobody seems to know at the moment is when exactly will the Note III become available? According to the image above, a purported still snapped off of a Three UK internal document that seems to hint that Samsung's 2013 phablet will land, at least on the British carrier, on ...

We later talk about the Sony Honami and the first leaked gallery of the phone. The iPhone 5S is next as we have some carrier support information to back the name now. Intel surprised our radar after that since it seems they want to go into the smartphone business. We end today's show talking about the new HTC Fetch and HTC Mini+, even though we debate their functionality. All this and ...

Sony has been all about Z-series Android this year: starting with the Xperia Z and ZL, and most recently with the Z Ultra, Z's been the name of the game. Now the company's next big Android is nearly ready to launch, and rumors have suggested that it might break from tradition: that the device we've been following as codename Honami could arrive as the Xperia i1. A new theory now suggests that won't be the case at all, and Honami will continue the Z lineage as the Xperia Z1. That actually makes sense from a number of angles. Besides just going with brand consistency (like's been so big this ...
